The Dean Martinis

When: Fri., Dec. 30, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $5
Pianist and singer Geno Haffner has been mining the vaults of old-school swing, boogie-woogie and jump-blues for as long as he's been tickling the ivories, regardless of the fickle whims of musical fashion. If you want to know what the Dean Martinis sound like, just take a peek at the list of pianists Haffner cites as influences on the band's website — Pete Johnson ( Big Joe Turner), Johnnie Johnson (Chuck Berry), jazz great Oscar Peterson and New Orleans boogie master Professor Longhair. Haffner and his band (currently including drummer Chris Buck, guitarist Ben Graves, horn man Reggie Murray and longtime partner in crime John Owen on bass) have been working the jazz lounges, blues clubs and swing dance parties of the mid-South for well over a decade now. Suffice to say they're a well-oiled machine, and this performance/dance party is the perfect start to the partiest weekend of the year.
