The Dance on Widows' Row at Writer's Stage

Samm-Art Williams’ comedy about a quartet of North Carolina widows—and the men who fear them—was last produced locally at TSU in the summer of 2004. In fact, practically the same company is in on this revival, which, as before, is directed by Barry Scott. The joint production by the American Negro Playwright Theatre and SistaStyle Productions continues the promotion of committed collaborative efforts within the Nashville theater community and also offers a rarity: an open-ended run. That means that in-your-face players like Dianne Dixon, Tamiko Robinson and Kenneth Dozier can go for the jugular and work the high-end sitcom for a good long while. The original production, which definitely had solid laughs, struggled a bit in Act 2, which means the second time around offers an opportunity. Scott also co-stars.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 13. Continues through Aug. 21, 2009
