In February, The Damnwells posted their latest full-length, One Last Century, on their website for free download. It isnt pay-what-you-will or a limited version meant to entice fans into shelling out for the real thingits the whole kit and kaboodle, and the only cost is an email address for the bands mailing list. In an accompanying note, frontman Alex Dezen insists that these arent B-sides or works-in-progress. I have never worked so hard or put so much of myself into a collection of recorded songs, he writes. It is for just this reason that I want to give it away. Dezens casually emotive voice has always been the bands major draw. It works well in service of their crisp, punchy pop rock, but even better when thrown on top of a lovely balladlike the wonderfully titled I Will Keep the Bad Things From You off their debut Bastards of the Beat.
