The Color That Lies Between Us

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through July 27 2013
Fresh off his performance in Street Theatre’s provocative production of The Colored Museum, actor/writer/director Shawn Whitsell mounts this original script that presents a series of interconnected vignettes examining male-female relationships within the context of social realities like HIV, spirituality, abuse, religion, the loss of a child, poverty and “colorism” — a nuanced term coined by The Color Purple author Alice Walker — in the African-American community. Whitsell’s expanding résumé of plays often crosses over some of these important contemporary human or racial issues, but the focus here is how they play out specifically between man and woman. The playwright co-stars, along with J. Worthy, Fiona Soul and Marcus Desean Jackson.
