The Belleville Outfit at Station Inn

This Austin Americana sextet sprung up overnight like mushrooms, fertilized by hot performances at Merlefest last year. When singer/guitarist Rob Teter’s defunct Deschamps Band was offered a slot at the prestigious bluegrass and country festival, he rounded up some friends and they spent a week rehearsing. The overwhelmingly positive audience response to their blend of country-roots, gypsy swing and bluegrass prompted Teter to leave Loyola College in New Orleans for Austin to make the band a going concern. Off they went, hitting the road with a vengeance, and early this spring they released their fine debut Wanderin’. The crisp batch of energetic tunes is highlighted by the jazzy “Wonder Why,” which features violinist/singer Phoebe Hunt recalling the retro spirit of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and the amiable country-rock opener, “Somebody Like You.”
