The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at NCT

The Twain Shall Meet

The Twain Shall Meet
Nashville Children’s Theatre joins in “Twain and Twang”, the citywide celebration of Mark Twain, with this remounting of a show they’ve performed successfully in the not-too-distant past. Intended as a companion piece to Tennessee Rep’s production of Big River slated for spring 2010, this musical version of Twain’s classic novel features a book by Ken Ludwig and songs by Don Schlitz, one of Music City’s most respected tunesmiths. Patrick Waller portrays the title role, with Peter Vann enacting the role of Huck Finn. The two talented actors will then switch off roles when the Rep mounts the Roger Miller musical. Also appearing in both productions will be Rona Carter, Jeff D. Boyet and Henry Haggard. In addition, noted designer Gary Hoff has built a steamboat-styled set that will eventually be moved into TPAC for use during the Big River run. Scot Copeland directs, with musical direction by Paul Carrol Binkley. Sept. 26 features a post-show appearance by Schlitz, who discusses his music for Tom Sawyer and plays and sings some of the numbers in the inimitable style that has made him a legend in Nashville’s in-the-round circles.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 11. Continues through Oct. 11, 2009
