October is Native American Indian Month in Tennessee, and as autumn colors come to the fore, they’ll make a vivid seasonal backdrop for the Native American Indiana Association of Tennessee at Long Hunter State Park this weekend. Now in its 30th year, the event spotlights American Indian arts and crafts, traditional dancing, storytelling, music, drum contests, clothing and games, as well as foods such as chili, hominy and “Indian tacos” made with puffy, doughy fry bread. Tickets are $6, $3 for seniors and children 6-12; proceeds go to the NAIA Scholarship and Emergency Fund.
