“Middle Tennessee farmland once fed Nashville, and it will again,” say the organizers of the annual Tennessee Local Food Summit, which aims to help bring about this change in our food system with a weekend of workshops, networking and a hearty celebration of another harvest. This year’s summit, the third, is the most extensive yet, and includes meals from some of Nashville’s best chefs. The festivities start Friday evening with a reception at chef Jeremy Barlow’s Sloco sandwich shop; Saturday features a day of workshops held at Trevecca Nazarene University, on topics such as urban farming, nutrition and sustainability, along with a gardening Q&A with “Barefoot Farmer” Jeff Poppen. Then comes the party: dinner and entertainment at Corsair Distillery with food prepared by noted local chefs. Sunday’s activities are a tour of Trevecca Urban Farm Aquaponics and a visit to Delvin Farms. Visit tnlocalfood.com for details and registration.
