From the time Johannes Guttenberg invented letterpress in the 15th century, this form of movable-type printing was in widespread use for hundreds of years, even stretching into the 20th century. Along the way, printed documents changed the world as we know it, transforming literacy from a luxury to a necessity. These days, as print media faces challenges from Kindle and Twitter, this new show casts a light on the magical power of print. Telling the Story features work by teachers and students from the Franklin printing press at Middle Tennessee State University and Goldsmith Press at Austin Peay State University, giving Nashville print-fiends a preview of the young inksters who may soon add to the local niche currently occupied by Hatch Show Print, Isle of Printing and more.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: July 1. Continues through Sept. 27, 2009
