Whether with syndicated preachers, local Bible-thumpers, or the highly-produced “lite pop” of contemporary Christian radio, the Nashville airwaves are filled with programming billed as Christian.
But last week a low-wattage AM station in Lebanon became the first overtly satanic station in the Middle Tennessee area. WSTN, also known as Radio Free Hell, announced itself in a big way last week by abandoning its country format and playing the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” for 24 straight hours.
The station then settled into a regular diet of musicold and newthat could broadly be considered “satanic.” Heavy rotation during the first week included Robert Johnson’s “Me and the Devil Blues” and “Hell Hound on My Trail,” and ample doses of Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, and Slayer.
WSTN general manager Art Enhebben, who masterminded the format change, says despite threatened boycotts by local churches against station advertisers, he is confident the “All Satan, all the time” programming can find a profitable niche. “If we deliver teenagers in the numbers I think we will, the advertisers will follow,” he says.
Anecdotal reports from Lebanon and the eastern Davidson County area where the signal is strongest indicate that high schoolers are already tuning into the station in large numbers. Meanwhile, a fair number of the station’s distinctive red “Your Radio Is Going to Hell” bumper stickers already have been spotted on cars at Lebanon High.
Radio Free Hell DJs, to be collectively promoted as the “Li’l Devils,” are said to include such broadcasting luminaries as “Lou Cipher,” “Bea L. Zabub,” and morning drive jock “Helena Handbasket.”
“We’re having some fun with the names, but our on-air personalities will be playing dances and doing live remotes every weekend,” Enhebben says. “We’re going to have midnight showings of The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby, and we hope to promote some Sunday morning activities to give our listeners an alternative to church services.”

First it's Satanists, and then it'll be - even worse - Muslims! Thanks, Obama!
