Teenage FBI Perform Guided by Voices' Alien Lanes at The Basement

Someone's Got to Tell Them Why

Someone's Got to Tell Them Why
Led by benevolent dictator Robert Pollard, lo-fi kings Guided by Voices are THE treasure-trove band for music nerds, as Pollard—who has nearly 1,000 published songs to his name—was musically incontinent when it came to releasing records. Thus, listeners are left to cherry-pick the best cuts from the band's enormous catalogue. Of their 15 proper albums, 1995's Alien Lanes is an obvious classic for GBV aficionados—second only to its predecessor, the seminal lo-fi classic Bee Thousand—as well as a great entry point for those ready to take on the band's intimating catalogue. Featuring members of The Carter Administration and The Privates, Nashville's resident GBV tribute band Teenage FBI handily pulls off both the band’s sonic shambles and alcohol-fueled live show. Lead vocalist and Pollard stand-in Philip Pomeroy is consummate in taking on his muse’s stage persona—complete with high kicks, drunken stage banter and microphone swings—with a voice that's uncanny in its similarity to Pollard’s. The band will play all of Alien Lanes’ 28 tracks and then some.
