Best Foot Forward
We never get enough dance in Nashville. Fortunately, the theater community has stalwart souls who adore simply hoofing, and this all-dancing, all-singing production under the direction of choreographer Kate Adams-Johnson affords 18 energetic players the opportunity to celebrate the Swing Era of the 1930s and 40s. There are more than 30 big numbers, ranging from originals written expressly for the show by the Broadway cast, plus classic swing tunes like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and It Dont Mean a Thing (If It Aint Got That Swing). Expect eclectic moves here: jive, Latin, West Coast and East Coast swing, Lindy hop and collegiate shag. The accompanying live band is under the direction of veteran singer and teacher Ginger Newman. The cast comprises familiar musical comedy kids, including Macon Kimbrough, Deborah Stoltzfus, Terry McLemore, Tim Larson, John (Big Daddy Cool) Pyka and Lauren Shakespeare.
