Rich white owners vie in Super Bowl
For the XLIst time in XLI years, this year’s Super Bowl will feature teams owned by rich white people.
Titans owner Bud Adams, who was one of the rich white owners in Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, says this year’s white team owners are credits to the game.
“I know both Jim Irsay, the Colts owner, and Virginia Halas McCaskey of the Bears, and, let me tell you, they are both rich and white,” Adams says, adding, “It’s really a remarkable coincidence that this game has been played XLI times and it’s always rich white owners on both sides. At least for the P.C. crowd, Virginia is a woman.”
Rich white fans make up majority of crowd
It’s a good bet that the majority of spectators at Super Bowl XLI at Dolphins Stadium on Sunday will be rich and white, sources say.
“Obviously, ticket sales aren’t tracked by race, but at several hundred dollars each, the stands will be pretty much filled by rich people, and most rich people are white,” notes University of Miami sports sociologist Alfonso Wayne. “It’s not that there won’t be some well-off minority people there, because there will be, but this will probably be like all Super Bowls: rich white spectators watching rich, ethnically diverse players.”
Minorities to continue Super Bowl cleanup tradition
In a continuing Super Bowl tradition, most of the people doing the hands-on work of the massive stadium cleanup following Sunday’s game will be African American or Hispanic, according to an NFL press release.
“Persons of color have taken the lead in cleaning up after all XL Super Bowls so far, and Super Bowl XLI will be no exception,” the release gushes, noting that, “From the days of Vince Lombardi to the present day, when it comes to cleaning up, NFL stadiums have a minority-rich tradition.”
