Streetlight Allstars w/The Tunnel Clones at The Rutledge

Tonight's show at the Rutledge is in fact a birthday party for local concert promoter/reproductive rights activist Samantha Blanchard, and we love you, girl, but the real reason to celebrate is a rare one-two punch of hot hip-hop action. Murfreesboro's No. 1 party rap crew The Streetlight Allstars haven't made their way up I-24 in a while, and it's nice to see that they could pry themselves out of the studio for a hot minute. What we've heard of their debut record, due out in February, sounds really tight, and we're hoping they'll bring fresh tunes to the Rutledge. The other happy berfday treat is a rare appearance from Memphis rap crew The Tunnel Clones, who, by virtue of sampling classic Memphis soul and funk, sound like they could have stepped out of the South Bronx circa ’93.
