This play by George Darden has been workshopped previously in Nashville, and it’s also been performed elsewhere, including at the 2011 DC Black Theatre Festival. The script concerns an expressionistic painter named Myles, who is pushed toward commercial success by his affluent girlfriend/manager, Denise. Denise maintains a plush condo for him, but also exhibits peculiar behavior that has Myles looking elsewhere for love. He finds it with Karmen, and their steamy affair begins to distract him from his work — and hence out of Denise’s favor, financial and otherwise. Then Myles discovers a dark secret about Karmen, yet finds himself unable to erase her from his life. The author directs this production, with an assist from Shawn Whitsell. The cast comprises Mary McCallum, Kyle Williams and Jolinda Beck.
Strange Relationship is recommended for mature audiences.
