Creating his whimsical forms out of forged steel, local sculptor Victor Schmidt's latest show is informed by the artist's preoccupation with mythology, and his biomorphic shapes are expressive, evocative abstractions that hint at deeper narratives. Beyond the specific pieces themselves, it's Schmidt's craftsmanship that is the star of the show. His forged, formed, fitted and welded pieces' flawless surfaces often lead viewers to assume his work has been cast, and the particulars of his meticulous assemblage may be the deepest mystery on display. We're not sure what Ovvio has planned for the show, but this art space is know for their dramatic, tasteful presentation of work. It's likely that even longtime fans of Schmidt's sculptures will find many surprises to delight in here.
