Ride a White Dwarf

Ride a White Dwarf
Having the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne as an uncle is enough to grab some attention, not to mention excuse a band name that sounds like the product of a Mad-Lib (but was actually inspired by their favorite kind of ecstasy). Unfair as it may be to assess the band purely in light of that association, it’s inevitable given that they've toured as a support act for The Flips and share many aesthetic similarities—colorful imagery, barrages of noise and sharp melodic bombast. Luckily for them, they're riding on some of rock's brightest coattails. Like their familial predecessors, they have a penchant for big lights, big smoke and big volume. Musically they combine elements of '70s prog—a la King Crimson or Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein"—with modern hip-hop and club influences, resulting in a sound that's pure drug-fueled rave-rock. Don't let Nancy Reagan keep you from this one—just say yes! And the Relatives and Eastern Block open.
