Star & Micey at Cafe Coco

Big Star....and Micey

Big Star....and Micey
Memphis’ Ardent Records has resurfaced with a little buzz lately after releasing a Big Star box set and reissuing Chris Bell’s I Am the Cosmos. But aside from keeping those Southern power-pop staples in circulation, Ardent is keeping the spirit alive with new jams as well, most recently with a debut from Memphis trio Star & Micey. Blending contemporary indie folk trends with a gritty Southern groove, the band breaks out melodies that recapture the power pop essence of the ’70s with the power coming out of the hooks more than in the amplifiers. Guest appearances from the likes of Big Star’s Jody Stephens, Black Crowes’ Luther Dickinson and Lucero’s Rick Steff add an extra layer of an icing to an already perfectly light, upbeat and edible pop gem.
