Stapleton Center

With a lineup still in flux at press time, there are no guarantees regarding this show, except that Stapleton could hold an audience in thrall all by himself if need be. While his singing rides nicely over the textures provided by his regular bluegrass band The SteelDrivers, it’s just as strong when he’s accompanied by nothing more than his own guitar—although he’s already got a bass man (J. T. Cure) signed up, and avers that “you’ll probably see Ronnie Bowman there in some capacity.” The two, responsible for writing Kenny Chesney’s “Never Wanted Nothing More,” both shaped their writing and singing styles before arriving in Nashville, and they play off one another in delicious ways, as Bowman’s subtle, often mournful twang pushes against Stapleton’s assertively soulful voice. Any additional friends can only add to what’s already likely to be a full measure of enjoyment.
