Notice that this is the Spring Block Party — not the Spring Break Block Party. Besides the fact that it’s a month too late for that, this is a well-rounded hometown lineup you don’t need to be utterly and completely trashed or grinding beneath a fount of flavored foam to enjoy. The Wild Feathers have your red-blooded, Stonesy riffing covered; Sol Cat will supply the angular, psychedelic dance-pop; Roots of a Rebellion cover Rastafied indie rock; and Matt Wahlberg and the Living Situation — the side project of H-Beam’s frontman — provides the wisecracking singer-songwriter fare. Rounding out the bill is The Apache Relay, with a new self-titled album in tow. If the quintet hadn’t already put enough distance between themselves and the folk-stomping exuberance with which they first emerged from their dorm rooms, this lushly arranged set ought to do the trick. Their songwriting still has an off-the-cuff, confessional feel, but it’s dressed up in Specter-esque orchestration and reverb that lends it the headiness of a waking dream.
