Any self-respecting fashion fan would likely cringe at the comparison, but Nashville Pride is kinda like a mullet: Their 22-year presence in Nashville is proof of a serious commitment up front to creating awareness of issues affecting the LGBT community, but their annual festivals and fundraisers are all party. This year is no exception, with the continuation of their annual Splash! Pride Pool Party at local lesbian hang Mad Donna's. Event producer Milton White says the show will have something for everyone, with male and female models working vintage-and-now swimwear ranging from sexy Brazilian-inspired two-pieces for the ladies and next-to-nothing board shorts on guys — “not quite Speedos, and not quite shorts,” White says. The swimwear comes courtesy of East Nashville boutique Hue, and also featured are one-pieces from their enviable vintage collection — pieces White says are very timely thanks to a pop-music resurgence of pinup-inspired aesthetics a la Beyoncé (“Very sexy, very ’50s, very Betty Page”). Five bucks gets you in; $10 gets you a seat on the runway and a swag bag overflowing with free product, and rumored to contain samples of the breakthrough shaveless shave cream Cremo.
