Songwriters Known and Unknown

Wilken, a recent Music City transplant, enters the Nashville songwriting scene in the court of kings, queens and jesters. A veteran rock musician stretching back to the ’60s, Wilken writes potent narratives awash in East Nashville bohemianism rather than Music Row professionalism. That’s why he’s being championed by acoustic warriors David Olney and Tony Laiolo, who have made a point of sharing bills with him. Olney’s been rolling hot dice recently, with each show and album raising the stakes, and Laiolo—along with his sly, observational tunes—has a rep for introducing stellar songwriting talent to locals. They’re adding to the pot by bringing in songwriter Lisa Carver, a compelling performer with a raw edge that’s rare among hit Nashville songwriters.
