Smooth Acronym-inal

Pickin’ ‘n’ grinnin’ acronym fans, unite! The SPBGMA (Society For The Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) Bluegrass Awards and Convention will take place at the Sheraton Music City Hotel today through Sunday. The event will include the typical convention staples: name tags, tepid coffee, anonymous banal halls filled with folding tables (plus workshops, promoters, talent buyers, record companies and trade exhibits!). But there’s also fun stuff for the average (Billy) Joe too, including an awards show and a whole slew of big-name performers like Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Dailey & Vincent (see below), The James King Band, Grasstowne and more. Tickets start at $35 ($15 for kiddies ages 6-12), and full event and weekend packages are available. For more information and a rundown of the 40-act lineup, visit spbgma.com or call (660) 665-7172.
