Michael L. Walker is a Nashville original. A playwright and producer committed to wide-ranging aspects of the African American experience, he's also a latter-day pioneer of the grassroots community theater scene, his gritty productions often providing opportunities for talented newcomers. Walker's dramas are usually realistic affairs with plainspoken folks dealing with contemporary urban issues. First mounted at the 2008 Shades of Black Theatre Festival, Smokin' Room is prime Walker territory, charting the turbulent lives of drug addicts and the pain they inflict on those who care about them. The author, a veteran of rehab himself, knows what he's talking about, so expect some seriously troubled characters and tough-talking performances. Also, for the first time in his Dream 7 company's history, Walker will star in his own creation. Others in the cast include Yolonda McClain, Sheerene Whitfield, Aaron Finley, Jimmie Hill, Shawn Whitsell, Darren Franklin and Molly Hoekstra.
