Volunteer organizations can generally count on Thanksgiving to bring out all the holiday spirit its community can muster — soup kitchens and donation centers are annually stuffed like a turducken made out of hospitality, civic duty and thyme. Looking for a way to help those less fortunate, while perhaps shouting a few expletives at our Canadian hockey rivals as a bonus? Kill two birds (or five, counting the turducken) with this Turkey Day volunteer opportunity, which just so happens to coincide with a Preds game against the Edmonton Oilers. Smashville’s Golden Giveaway is a 50/50 raffle that’s been taking place at every home game since Oct. 15, and will continue through Jan. 20— at which point half the money collected will be awarded to a lucky participant during the drawing that night. The other half will be donated to the Predators Foundation to benefit local nonprofits. Want to help this worthy cause? Check out Hands On Nashville’s website — hon.org — for more information.
