Six Triple Eight

When: Feb. 21-March 8 2014
For this two-week Black History Month run at the Darkhorse Theater, Mary McCallum’s SistaStyle Productions was originally slated to mount Miss Evers’ Boys, David Feldshuh’s play about the controversial Tuskegee experiments. Instead, McCallum will direct Six Triple Eight, her original script inspired by the first African-American female military units that arrived in World War II-era Europe. McCallum’s script follows members of the 6888 Central Postal Battalion, a group with the seemingly impossible task of distributing millions of pieces of previously undelivered mail to soldiers in three months. The characters include a young woman seeking adventure and romance; a famous actress; a single mother trying to create a better life for her son; and Sadie, a woman with the gift of “second-sight.” McCallum’s cast includes familiar faces from her many previous theatrical projects, such as Molly Breen, Meleisha Edwards, Shawn Whitsell, Tammi Daniels, Candace-Omnira LaFayette, Naeaidria Callihan and Felicia Brown.
