Spring 2003

With spring just around the corner, in this issue of Site we focus on the transformation of one the city’s great landmarks: the Hermitage Hotel. The recent $17 million dollar renovation bucks Nashville’s disturbing trend of demolition by neglect of our historic buildings and demonstrates how a careful restoration can turn a dilapidated structure into one of the city’s brightest architectural sites. Angela Wibking offers a preview of upcoming home shows and garden tours, as well as the first annual Old House fair aimed at owners and prospective buyers (and rehabilitators) of historic homes. Wibking also talks with some of Nashville’s finest landscape designers about aspects of their craft and shows off some objects of high design from local stores. Finally, MiChelle Jones reviews four new books that range in subject from the design of small spaces to sites designed to blend in the with landscape.
