Site

With Site, each spring and fall we examine the various aspects of design in modern life. In this issue, Lisa Porter profiles three local collectors, Robert Hicks and Richard and Molly Schneider, whose unique collections add beauty to their homes and their lives. Christine Kreyling takes readers on a tour of Howard and Betty Lee Rosen’s home, designed by their son, Eric, an L.A.-based architect; the Rosens’ house-on-a-trapezoid brings the best of West Coast design to Nashville. Kreyling also gives a sneak peak into the extensive renovation of Vanderbilt Chancellor Gordon Gee’s residence in Belle Meade.

Elsewhere in these pages, Angela Wibking takes a whirlwind tour of the Eixample in Barcelona, a bastion of Modernisme design and architectural abundance, and a must-visit for the design-savvy traveler. Wibking also helps you find the best gifts at local museum shops, and she takes a look at upcoming home tours and garden shows. Donna Dorian Wall examines the work of landscape architect Bryant Fleming and the efforts of Friends of Warner Parks to preserve his work here. Finally, Bill Carey offers a brief biography of Arthur J. Dyer, founder of Nashville Bridge Co., and one of the industrial magnates responsible for turning Nashville into the city it is today.
