It’s Friday the 13th. What could be more appropriate than people decked in feathered masks, glow sticks and hula hoops, dancing their asses off to the psychedelic-electronic trance mindbender known as Shpongle? A strange union of worldly rhythms, Eastern influences and synthesizers, Shpongle was formed by Simon Posford and Raja Ram in 1996, with the 1998 debut Are You Shpongled? on U.K. electronica label Twisted Records. And the Shpongletron, their three-story light/video artifice that was onstage at last year’s Bonnaroo, was definitely twisted. Shpongle has proven to be an international sensation, with sold-out shows all around the world, four studio releases under its belt and a fifth planned for this year. This live performance will be familiar to those who saw it at Bonnaroo, with a Simon Posford DJ set that takes you to Shpongleland, where dreams become divine moments of truth. If you’re no stranger to the strange … let’s get weird.
