Shameless Self Promotion

The annual South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival gets under way this week, as hundreds upon hundreds of performers make their way to Austin, Texas, to play showcases and take part in the festive, buzzing atmosphere. The Nashville Scene is a participating media sponsor, and we wish luck to Nashville singers and bands taking part in the event.... There are lots of noteworthy events coming up in the next few weeks, chief among them The Mystical Arts of Tibet, a March 25 concert featuring sacred music and dance performed by Buddhist monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery. Indeed, there’ll be a whole week of events surrounding the monks’ arrival in town, all of them a needed antidote to the warmongering currently happening in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.nashvilletibetbuddhism.com.... Bummed that Mardi Gras has come and gone? Well, you’ve got another chance to celebrate it and help a good cause with the March 21 Public Interest Mardi Gras Auction, which will raise funds to help support Vanderbilt law students interested in pursuing public interest legal work—a noble and worthy career.... The annual Tin Pan South festival, a celebration of songwriters boasting tons of live performances and several notable special events, is coming soon.... This week’s movie sneak is Dreamcatcher, based on the Stephen King book. Look inside this week's print edition for details on where and when to pick up your pass.
