Just about fours years ago, Nashville Childrens Theatre scored a hit with its staging of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flahertys musicalized sampler of characters and plot lines derived from the works of iconic childrens author Dr. Seuss. Its an energetic and colorful show offering simple fun for the kids, plus a sophisticated comic subtext for grownups. Trevecca Nazarene University will give it the good ole college try with the gaily cartoonish script and pastiche score, though director Jeffrey D. Frame, associate professor of dramatic arts, also promises a Dr. Seuss-meets-Tim Burton interpretation. (Hmmm...well, as long as things stay away from the kind of peculiarity that made Mike Myers film version of The Cat in the Hat a bomb.) T. J. Adams is the Cat in the Hat, Cameron Culver is Horton the Elephant, Stefanie Wienecke is Mayzie and Yertle the Turtle, Cassie Hamilton is Gertrude McFuzz and the cast includes 26 other youthful performers.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 29. Continues through Nov. 7, 2009
