See See Ryder

This young Toronto singer-songwriter plays acoustic music with a rock attitude, penning tough words that prove once again that thoughtfulness need not equate tenderness. She’s got a penchant for theatrical displays, choosing drama over nuance, and her blend of artfulness, self-possession and overstatement puts her somewhere between homegirls Feist and Alanis Morissette. She drew enough quick industry buzz to earn the 2008 Juno Award as Canada’s best new artist, and her recent signing to Atlantic Records means she’s being primed for a big stateside push. Her current tour is designed to introduce her on an intimate level before shooting for the stars, and she won’t be shy about making her presence known.
