Sebastian Speaks' Second Annual Fifth Anniversary Bash feat. KORT, D. Watusi & The Tyler Family Band

When: Fri., July 8, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $5
We just can’t sing the praises of local guitarist and all-around cool guy William Tyler enough. Not that we haven’t sung the hell out of said praises in the past. In addition to his six-string contributions for Lambchop, Silver Jews, Tim Chad and Sherry, Superdrag, KORT and his own gorgeous instrumental project, The Paper Hats, Tyler runs a small label known as Sebastian Speaks. For over a half-decade, Sebastian Speaks has put out releases by locals like ambient folksters Forest Bride and experimental noise punks Deluxin’, and recently, Sebastian became the American label for KORT’s critically acclaimed Invariable Heartache. (If you’re still not familiar with KORT, by the way — and you definitely, definitely should be — it’s the project of local songstress Cortney Tidwell and Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner, and it’s absolutely beautiful.) Tonight’s celebration — which has been dubbed the “Second Annual Sebastian Speaks Fifth Anniversary Party” and will double as KORT’s LP release party — takes place at the VFW on Charlotte. Last year’s celebration took place at a bowling alley, and was, by all accounts, a complete and utter hoot. In addition to KORT, other bands on the bill include surfy proto-punkers D. Watusi and The Tyler Family Band, which — as advertised — features William Tyler’s family. And an exceptional, good-lookin’ family it is.
