Scream Blacula Scream at The Belcourt

Soulless Brother No. 1

Soulless Brother No. 1
Seeing this movie makes me wish Pam Grier would raise the King of Cartoons (a.k.a. William Marshall) from death to suck Tyler Perry’s blood. Scream Blacula Scream sports a flawless performance from the King of Cartoons as Blacula—a bloodsucker icon to stand alongside Lugosi, Lee and Gary Oldman. While watching the King of Cartoons convincingly cripple his victims with a mere nostril flare, I recall stories of Oldman demanding untold freakish prosthesis. All the King needs is a cape. Black on the outside. Red inside. When he raises his arms he turns into a bat. Like real actual vampires do. True Blood can suck it this Halloween weekend, ’cause Pam Grier’s voodoo style is both trick and treat.
