In this demystifying and engrossing documentary portrait, director Stephen Kijak traces the unsettling imagery found in the macabre tales of death, melancholy and kinky sex that have underscored cult hero Walker's work, from his teen-idol days and his time as a '70s balladeer to his hauntingly bent avant-garde work of the last 25 years. Including extensive interviews with Walker himself, Kijak gets unprecedented access to an enigmatic figure who, having spent the better part of the last 30 years in seclusion, has maintained a career shrouded in mystery. The film is a naked and honest portrayal of a man whose work has deeply compelled artists like David Bowie (the film's executive producer), Brian Eno, Sting, Jarvis Cocker, Johnny Marr and Radiohead, all of whom share their appreciation onscreen. To a man, these talking heads seem exceptionally humbled by his music--a testament to the mammoth influence that Scott Walker has had on late 20th-century pop, despite his relative obscurity in the mainstream.
