Dharan Mandrayar's 2005 melodrama attacks Indian society's mistreatment of widows, who are shunned by their families and abandoned to poverty and death. Sonali Kulkarni plays the upper-caste wife and business owner whose husband dies in a traffic accident; her ungrateful family dumps her at the so-called "City of Widows," Vrindavan, where she finds solace in the company of three destitute women in equally desperate circumstances. Dr. V. Mohini Giri, the author, daughter-in-law of the late Indian President Shri V.V. Giri and international activist for women's rights who inspired the main character, will attend the free screening.
