Sandra McCracken CD Release Show
Now, here’s something you don’t come across every day: a project populated with hymns that are either old or just feel like they are, taken on by a singer-songwriter who sincerely means them and brings to them smarts and historical knowledge — as well as an indie-pop, electronically embellished, Grey’s Anatomy-friendly sonic palette. If that sounds like your thing, Sandra McCracken’s got it on her new album In Feast or Fallow. She and her frequent collaborator/husband Derek Webb — who produced the album — are fixtures in Nashville’s thoughtfully spiritual indie songwriter scene. (Yes, there is one of those.) In fact, McCracken’s been making contemporary folk albums with a gentle touch for about a decade now. Joining her for this show are kindred spirits Thad Cockrell, Lori Chaffer, Chelsey Scott and, of course, Webb. Proceeds will go to musicians who lost their gear in the flood.
