After Augusten Burroughs’ New York Times best-selling memoir Running With Scissors came out in 2002, he found himself trapped in a lawsuit with the dysfunctional family who helped raise him. They claimed his memoir, well, wasn’t a memoir. Ten years later, he’s written a self-help book, This Is How: Surviving What You Think You Can’t, in which he lays out, among other topics, How to Be Confident, How to Feel Less Regret, How to End Your Life and How to Feel Like Shit. His advice, laced with wry humor, provides a self-help landscape for those wishing to escape the positive-affirmation hell of self-help books past. He’ll discuss his new book as part of the Salon@615 series. Baggage welcome.
