Rusko at Limelight

Cockney Thug

Cockney Thug
Big ups to local production crew Everything’s Nice for bringing to Nashville one of the globe’s leading DJs so early in his ascendancy—we’re used to catching the new hot shit after it’s a little older and colder than you’d typically desire. London’s Rusko is one of the first major UK dubstep DJs to make an impact here in the States, because, as with Ol’ Dirty Bastard, there is no father to his style. Where most dubstep is simply an exercise in discovering the most menacing, internal-organ-exploding sub-bass sounds imaginable while eschewing melody and energy, Rusko uses low-end rumble as the foundation on which he builds subversive deconstructions of other genres. Pulling from classic rave, reggae, hip-hop and pop sounds, Rusko makes electronic dub for the old schooler and the new initiate alike.
