Royal Bangs w/Fly Golden Eagle

When: Sat., May 5, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $10
When Royal Bangs dropped their latest record Flux Outside last year, I had to reconsider my be-all-end-all description of them: “Knoxville’s loudest band.” Sure, Royal Bangs are still loud as hell — that much can be assured — but they’ve also gotten awfully freaky since their 2008 debut. Flux Outside is filled with wonky electronics and space-rock-opera freakouts, giving their reverb-drenched psych rock a kind of glitchy hyper-progressiveness that pushes hard against the music press’s occasional attempts to brand them as standing in the long shadow of Kings of Leon. The Bangs, who have been recording new tunes for their fourth record since late March, resurface for a show at The End. Opening are fellow psych-rockers — and recent Road to Bonnaroo champions — Fly Golden Eagle.
