Exit/In’s free Rock the Block series has been seriously satisfactory this summer. Tuesdays used to be something of a throwaway night, when the only action you could find would be a writer’s night showcase or, at best, some sort of 2-for-1/karaoke combo. But no more! On top of being free and generally superb, Rock the Block recently spread across Elliston to assimilate The End into its weekly festivities. Tonight, Murfreesboroan record peddlers Grand Palace have selected the entertainment, which includes but is not limited to surf-rock- and Pixies-inspired indie-rockers Heartbeater, the alt-country boogie of Hammertorch, the Beatles-meets-Built to Spill psych pop of Hands Down Eugene, Tristen’s immaculately voiced folk-pop, the boisterous folk-punk of Henry Daggs and the ever-so-catchy prog-pop of recently reunited The Whole Fantastic World. And it’s free, you guys. Free. I don’t know how many times I can say it.
