Not to over-generalize, but if you live in Nashville, chances are pretty good that your brain is crammed so full of borderline nonsensical trivia that you could write your own rock 'n' roll Wikipedia. Problem is, there aren't a whole lot of situations where you're rewarded for knowing all of Ol' Dirty Bastard's pseudonyms. Thank God for Rock & Roll Team Trivia at Mercy Lounge, now celebrating one year of validating all of those hours spent watching VH-1's Behind the Music. The weekly 8 off 8th pre-game ritual is more or less like any other trivia game on the planet: Teams answer a series of increasingly difficult trivia questions over the course of six rounds. There are three regular trivia rounds, two "name that tune" rounds and one "final wager," where teams can bet all of their earnings and win big or, more likely, lose everything. The night's champions come out with Mercy Lounge fun bucks (i.e., cash spendable at the bar), while teams with the best names or best wrong answers are awarded guest-list spots to an upcoming Mercy Lounge/Cannery Ballroom show. The anniversary edition promises to be their "rockin-est, rollin-est, teamin-est trivia event yet." Lord knows what the trivia mavens have in store for us, but they have promised that erstwhile trivia presenter and local-rock den mother Janet Timmons will blow off her radio show (Out the Other on 91.1-WRVU) to help ring in the next year of trivia in style.
