Robert Ellis w/Harrison Hudson

When: Mon., May 14, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $8
Don’t believe the hype: We can, and we will, mess with Texas. Specifically, we’ll mess with Texas musicians, because outside of our own hometown crew, who has more badass musicians than the Lone Star State? Certainly not Brooklyn, and certainly not L.A. And every single time he comes through town, we will definitely mess with Robert Ellis. Our first encounter with Ellis was random — we walked in the door, he was onstage, our jaws hit the floor. Our second encounter was by design — we weren’t going to miss his SoundLand showcase, because frankly, there isn’t a more talented and engaging artist working in the country/folk idiom right now. Photographs, Ellis’ 2011 debut for New West Records, was one of our favorites last year, a record of subtle beauty and an enormous charm, the perfect soundtrack for a sunny afternoon and late-night rabble-rousing.
