Some controversy arose after this year’s first installment of the Road to Bonnaroo series at Mercy Lounge, when — despite winning both the audience vote and the judges’ vote — dark horses Colorfeels were disqualified for playing longer than their allotted time (allegedly by just two minutes). Thus, feel-good indie ensemble By Lightning! took home the prize and will be playing at the 2012 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Hopefully there will be no such hullabaloo this go-round, as eight more local outfits fight it out for a spot at the ’Roo. Competing in this, the second of three RTBs, will be some Scene faves — trad country-channeling songstress Nikki Lane, Costello-esque pop wunderkind Evan P. Donohue and songwriter Keegan DeWitt’s electro-pop outfit, Wild Cub — not to mention reggae rockers The Running, wistful Southern rockers Static Revival, pop-rock pretty boys Tesla Rossa, blue-eyed funksters Marquee Mayfield and industrial-leaning electro-punks Five Knives. And they’ll all be vying for our attention — our fave!
