Guest curators Jeff Bertrand and Brooke E. bring Remasters of the Universe to Blackbird Tattoo and Gallery for one of the most over-the-top art events of the summer. The punning title of the new exhibition recalls the 1980s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon, but at first glance, I read it as Cremasters of the Universe, which has nothing to do with He-Man and Battle-Cat defending Castle Grayskull against Skeletor and his horde from Snake Mountain. But since we’re on the subject, I’d love to see Mathew Barney reboot the Masters of the Universe franchise. Richard Serra will play Beast-Man. Art references aside, Blackbird’s Remasters is more of a multisensory happening than a simple gallery show. Featuring contributions from more than 30 artists, musicians, dancers and chefs, highlights include Music City Burlesque, Ash Sivils, Anjeanette Illustration and 80 Days Catering. Music will be provided by Last of the Horsemen, Fuckshow, Erin Rae and more. Your ticket to this shindig will run you from 10 to 50 bucks.
