Street Theatre Company’s ClassAct Dramatics youth program presents this rather legendary collaboration between children’s book author Maurice Sendak and songwriter Carole King. Based on various works from the Sendak catalog, Really Rosie explores the show business fantasies of a sassy little girl from Brooklyn — King was one of those, once upon a time — who entertains all her friends on Avenue P with the dramatized, Oscar-winning story of her life. (Think Where the Wild Things Are meets the Brill Building.) Originally conceived as a 1975 animated TV special, the script and music were later expanded and presented in 1980 as an Off-Broadway show. The STC production features some 20 area young people ages 7-15, with direction by Emory Colvin and musical direction by Erica Lee Haines. Zakyra McKinney performs the title role. Recommended for all ages.
