Real Women of Color was founded in 2008 and has evolved over the years into an organization to help single moms and at-risk youth. RWOC offers a variety of mentoring and service programs, and the first annual Family Festival is the culmination of these efforts. RWOC registered 500 kids in one month, all of whom will receive backpacks full of school supplies at the event. For those who did not register, various community organizations will be at the festival to offer their services. The Nashville Barber and Style Academy will be offering free haircuts, while the J. Nicole Salon out of Antioch will provide free manicures. New Horizons Solutions Inc. will give free well-child physicals and StreetWorks will offer free HIV tests for adults. Informational vendors will be set up from TENNderCARE, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the New Life Program, Meharry dental school and the Nashville Fire Department. To top it off, there will be free food and live performances by local groups like Lil Bre & Young Squad, Pretty Ambition, Cloud 9 and the J&J Praise Team.
