Christmas Day with Ralphie May? For some, that may be a leap as remote as Chattanooga-native Mays unlikely ascension to comedy prominence and a home in the Hollywood Hills. May, 37, is proof that if you start early and grind it out long enoughhe once opened for Sam Kinison, whos been dead now 17 yearsyou might get a big break. In his case, that was the first season of Last Comic Standing, where he took the runner-up honors and then started to gain access to the usual opportunities in the comedy-starved entertainment wasteland: CDs, Comedy Central specials, talk-show appearances, etc. But hes obviously a road monster, toohes busy all through the holidays and into the new year and beyondand Nashvillians who dig his incessant observational stand-up, delivered in a pseudo hip-hop style (hes the fat, white, Southern guy whos appropriated Ebonics in search of laughs), can catch him at Zanies on this holiest of weekends. May is married to comic Lahna Turner, and shes on the bill, too. Be prepared for a petite, attractive brunette who sings folk songs about sperm, schlongs and racial stereotypes. Tis the season to be jolly.
Fri., Dec. 25, 8 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 26, 7 & 9 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 27, 7:30 p.m., 2009
