While the Wedgewood-Houston galleries have doubled Nashville’s First Saturday arts activities, East Nashville’s Second Saturday keeps plugging away, and this week they’ll have volumes to brag about — literally. The fourth annual Proto Pulp: Classic Books of the Future show is the big news at tonight’s neighborhood festivities. Hosted by The Idea Hatchery and Fat Crow Press, this year’s show will combine the illustrated books and book art the exhibition is known for with an outdoor festival that includes puppet shows, live music and ongoing story-time gatherings for the little ones. Proto Pulp takes place in the courtyard between The Idea Hatchery and Art & Invention on East Nashville’s Woodland Street. Exhibiting artists include Janet Lee, Judy A. Gill, Carl Carbonell, Susie Monick, Mark Sloniker, Brydget Carillo, Celene Aubry and Julie Sola. If you can’t make the show, the books are available at East Side Story, the local-authors-only bookstore at the Idea Hatchery.
