The subject of one of the most highly awaited shows on this year’s art calendar, Tokihiro Sato is a major figure in contemporary Japanese photography. Utilizing lights, mirrors and very long exposure times, Sato’s final photos are lyrical, poetic and haunting in their otherworldly glow. Sato’s process is as much performance as picture-taking, and the end result is not unlike drawing or painting with light. This modern master’s show at the Frist offers Nashville art-abouts a great opportunity to see the trained sculptor’s unique ability to fuse space with light. This is the latest show in a long run of consistent winners at the Frist’s Contemporary Artists Project Gallery.
